Words Made Flesh: Twenty One Stories from the Complete Creative Writing Course (edited by Maggie Hamand, Shaun Levin, and Natalie Butlin)

Twenty-one short stories and novel extracts showcase new talent from The Complete Creative Writing Course. This wide-ranging selection of work is as diverse as the writers themselves – from the humorous and thoughtful title story about the pitfalls of writing about sex, to the gritty tale of a hitman returning home to investigate his sister’s death. We visit a post-tsunami Sri Lanka, a South Africa at the end of Apartheid, and meet a budding Tanzanian chef and an alien who’s trying to make sense of things on earth.

Contributors include: Meera Ashish, Laurika Bretherton, Janet Colson, Isla Dunham, Rosemary Furber, Tree Garnett, Rochelle Gosling, David S. Hickson, Atalanta Miller, Peter Miller, E.J. Morrison, Jennifer Nadel, Susan Oke, Gerda Pearce, Mark Pendry, Rosie Rowell, Sarah Sotheron, Colette Swires, Roderic Vincent, Julia Weetman, and Barbara Wren

The Joshua Tales by Andra Simons

This fresh, startling, and magical poetry sequence is Andra Simons’ debut collection.

These poetic fables start out on an abandoned mid-Atlantic isle where people have been known to disappear into the ground. The poet and his shadow – in the form of a boy-child called Joshua – travel to the Oval Office, to a brief meeting with God, as well as to the dining tables of aunts and uncles, lunatics, jazz singers and whores.

The poems’ precision and mystery are mirrored in Kendra Ezekiel’s meditative collagraphs.

“…poetry that transcends human language…” The Royal Gazette (Bermuda)

Snapshot of The BoySnapshots of The Boy by Shaun Levin

A daring, funny and innovative exploration of the stories hidden inside photographs. Sixteen short lyrical pieces draw meaning and memories from captured moments in time.

Snapshots of the Boy is a meditation on love, memory and sexual awakening, and a riff on the lasting presence of The Boy in the life of the grown man.

“…Thirty-two pages in all. But Levin… does more with those thirty-two pages than some authors can do with tenfold that.” Jerry Wheeler, Out in Print
